Students organize second annual haunted event

Students who love the Halloween season and all things scary should mark their calendars.

The Kirkwood Community College Respiratory Therapy Club will host their second annual Haunted Hospital on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 4 – 7 p.m.

The event will take place on the second floor of Linn Hall in the Katz Simulation Center, Room 2006. The cost is $6 per person, cash only.

Respiratory Therapy Program Director and Club Advisor Liliana Hoffnagle said there has been a lot of excitement about the event from faculty and alumni. “We’re glad we’re doing it again,” she said.

Hoffnagle added that the wide participation in the event makes it feel like a community.

In regard to event changes this year compared to last year, Hoffnagle stated that some of the characters in the haunted hospital will be different. Also, this will be Sammy the Eagle’s first appearance at the event.

Hoffnagle said some of the materials used to set up the event include cloth drapes, tablecloths and glow in the dark tape. She added imitation blood is also used for some of the room scenarios.

All proceeds from the event will go toward supporting the Respiratory Therapy Program. Hoffnagle stated one of the initiatives is helping fund student attendance at a professional conference in Ankeny during the spring semester. She said she hopes the proceeds will cover the necessary registration fees and lodging.

The event is open to all Kirkwood students, staff, faculty and community members for a cash admission fee.
